For those who are not born with perfectly straight teeth, orthodontic procedures are often prescribed to correct their smiles. Metal braces were once the treatment of choice. However, more and more patients are requesting Braces Invisalign instead. The main advantage of Invisalign is that it cannot be easily seen by others. Patients like the fact they are straightening their teeth without having a mouth full of metal. It’s important to properly care for trays between scheduled dental appointments.

Clear braces are designed to be worn around the clock except when eating or drinking. At mealtime, it is important to remove the Braces Invisalign before consuming food. This is because chewing may damage the plastic trays. Even if the patient wants to eat a quick snack, they need to take out their clear braces first. Be sure to store the trays in their protective case. This will reduce the chance of misplacing the trays.

Patients are also advised to remove their clear braces whenever they drink anything besides water. This is mainly to prevent staining. Colored beverages, such as coffee and soda, may discolor the plastic trays. The liquid may also seep between the trays and the teeth, putting the patient’s teeth at risk for tooth decay. Some dentists recommend that patients only drink water between meals as a precaution.

Whenever the patient normally brushes their teeth, they should also remember to clean their Invisalign trays. Toothpaste should not be used on the plastic trays since it may scratch their surfaces. Dentists, however, do suggest brushing the trays with a clean, damp toothbrush. The trays should be rinsed with fresh water each time they are removed. To help disinfect the braces, the clear trays can be soaked in a denture cleaner. This solution will kill any bacteria and prevent the trays from discoloring over time.

Following these simple maintenance tips will ensure that the plastic trays stay clear and invisible. Practice proper cleaning habits every day during treatment to ensure the trays are free of bacteria. To learn even more about straightening your teeth with clear braces.
