Liposuction is a type of cosmetic surgery that is used to remove excess fat from around the body. People also refer to this as “body contouring.” Liposuction in Naperville can take many forms, and people get it all over the body including in the abdomen, arms, legs, ankles, buttocks, neck, and face. There are three main types of liposuction:
Tumescent Liposuction
Tumescent liposuction, or fluid injection liposuction, is the most common form of the liposuction procedure. In this case, the surgeon injects a medicated solution into the area of the body where the procedure will be done. This fluid does a couple of things: first, it serves as an anesthetic, which numbs the area both during and after the procedure. It also helps to lessen the bruising and swelling that might occur during the recovery process. Finally, it helps to remove the fat more easily. The solution is removed along with the fat.
Laser Assisted Liposuction
Also known as LAL, laser-assisted liposuction is when the surgeon uses the energy of a laser to literally liquefy the fat cells. Once the cells get turned into liquid, they are sucked out through small tubes, which are placed into the body via small incisions. This form of liposuction is generally performed around the chin, jowls, and face. LAL also helps to stimulate the body’s normal collagen production, which can help to prevent the sagging of skin following surgery.
Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction
Finally, there is ultrasound assisted liposuction or UAL. This, too, turns the fat cells into a liquid, but in this case, the surgeon uses ultrasound, not lasers. UAL can be done both internally and externally. Many times, UAL is used on the upper back or in males who are getting liposuction around the chest. UAL might also be used following tumescent liposuction to make sure that everything has been removed.
